After a 100 percent clearancerate at our first yearling sale of the season, Highgate Sales heads to New York for the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale on August 8 and 9 with two yearlings.
Our first offering comes 21 hips into the first session with an Audible filly out of the five-time winning mare Max’s Warrior. This filly is a three-quarter sister to impressive Santa Anita Maiden Special Weight winner Miss Bellatrix, who was the first foal for their dam. Max’s Warrior herself is a half-sister to the stakes-placed My Limit, who produced seven winners including Grade 1 winner Birdatthewire and the dam of the stakes winning Miss Conveyance.
While this filly is from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Florida Derby winner Audible and out of a Warrior’s Reward mare, she is bred similarly to other successful runners led by two-time Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Wit and juvenile stakes placed Pure Fire. In all, there are seven winners from 10 runners by Into Mischief sons out of Medaglia d’Oro mares.
Hip 21 is also bred similarly to Grade 3 Monmouth Cup winner Highly Motivated and stakes winner Mundaye Call (both by Into Mischief out of Warrior’s Reward mares).
The next Highgate offering going through the ring comes in the middle of the second session with a colt by City of Light selling as Hip 171.
The first foal out of the winning Ghostzapper mare Dating Game comes from the family of Grade 1 winner Commentator, who is a half-brother to this yearling’s unraced second dam Dias. A 10-year-old mare, Dais is also the dam of the stakes-placed Prince of Thieves from her two other foals. Before her success as a broodmare, Dais brought $360,000 as a yearling with Dating Game following her lead when selling for $360,000 at Keeneland September.
There are stakes performers under all three dams with racing age foals on this page, which bodes well for this colt. Dating Game also has her sire working for her when it comes to success as a broodmare with Ghostzapper hitting it out of the park with his daughters. Ghostzapper mares have produced 28 stakes winners and 17 graded stakes winners, led by Triple Crown winner Justify, champion and leading young Japanese sire Drefong, and Grade 1 winners American Gal and Silent Poet.
The colt’s sire City of Light is by Quality Road, whose sons have sired 13 stakes performers and four stakes winners, led by Grade 3 Iowa Oaks winner Butterbean, from just 171 runners.
