While the July Sale is filled with sparkling pedigrees there are always a handful that jump off the page for being especially resplendent.

[The Highgate-offered] Improbable colt is out of She’s Not Here, a two-time winner of Del Mar’s Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2T). And while we don’t make a habit of highlighting third dams, it’s worth a mention when that mare is Vertigineux, who gave us Zenyatta , not to mention multiple grade 1 winner Balance.

“He’s kind of a perfect blend of his sire and the dam sire (Street Cry),” said Jacob West of Highgate Sales. “He’s a well-made horse. Clean lines, gorgeous head, clean neck, big shoulder, and a big hip. He moves very efficiently, correct, and was raised at a good farm over at WinStar his whole life.”

This colt’s half brother, Talk of the Nation, provided a useful update to the catalog page when he finished second in the July 7 Manila Stakes (G3T) for 3-year-olds going one mile on turf at Belmont Park.

The emergence of China Horse Club’s breeding operation was emphasized by both Taylor and West.

“They were investors and partners with WinStar on a lot of the stallion prospects that they bought as yearlings and 2-year-olds, and then they’ve retained their interest in those selling prospects, so they bought mares specifically to breed to those stallion interests that they have,” West said. “It seems like they’ve grown more and more prominent every year for what they’ve been doing. They’ve invested in good horses, they bought good mares, and you’re seeing the products of some hard work and some luck.”
