Buyers looking for both domestic and international-quality talent need look no further than the Fasig-Tipton March Digital Sale which opened for bidding Thursday.
For buyers looking for 100% of the Saturday-afternoon fun without 100% of the risk, a 33% fractional interest in GSW JUST BEAT THE ODDS (Munnings) (hip 23) is on offer through Highgate Sales.
Off the board in only one start in his entire career and still in the prime of his career at 6-years-old, JUST BEAT THE ODDS took down the Elite Power S. (G3) at Aqueduct in late December before just getting caught on the wire by MG1SP Imagination (Into Mischief) in the G2 Riyadh Dirt Sprint in Saudi Arabia last month.
“This is a very rare and unique opportunity,” said Highgate’s Jill Gordon. “This is a horse that has been ultra consistent for his connections. He’s taken them on a pretty incredible ride thus far. Obviously, most recently, he had a huge effort in Saudi Arabia in the G2 Riyadh Dirt Sprint. He’s in career-best form. When you look back at his last three state-side starts, two of them have resulted in triple-digit Beyers. So for these folks, they’re willing and excited to welcome another partner to enjoy the ride. What a fun couple of Saturday afternoons you could have with this horse.”
Shipped back from the Middle East after his last start, JUST BEAT THE ODDS is enjoying a brief freshening at Maryland’s Fair Hill facility before returning to training with an eye towards the GIII True North Stakes at Saratoga in June.
“He shipped back from Saudi in great order,” Gordon said. “This is a horse that has been impeccably managed by [trainer] Greg Sacco and his team. They have a program that really works for this horse. They give him all the time he needs and he certainly rewards them in the afternoons for doing so. If you look at his last nine races, he’s been first or second in all of them. So he’s getting a brief freshening and then the tentative target is that True North. Then, hopefully, working [his] way towards the GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint. And then wouldn’t it be fun to back in Saudi Arabia next year with a horse like this.”
And, much like Hamm, Gordon was appreciative of the Digital Platform’s lack of stress on the horse.
“It’s a huge benefit to the horse,” Gordon said. “You’re not taking them out of their routine. You’re not asking them anything different than what they’re used to. [The platform] allows you to capitalize on opportunities like this when a horse is coming off a huge effort. The owners are wanting to welcome a new partner and you’re able to do that on a platform that still looks out for the best interest of the horse.”
Bidding on the Fasig-Tipton March Digital Sale will run through Tuesday, March 24 at 2 p.m. The full catalogue, along with information on how to register for bidding, can be viewed here.
